This fall, the Judd Foundation introduces a new event series, Ranch Field Trips, set at Casa Perez on the expansive Ayala de Chinati ranch outside Marfa, Texas. These field trips are designed to offer a deep dive into Donald Judd’s profound connection with the land and provide an intimate experience for attendees.
The November 9 event has already reached its capacity, with the upcoming trip scheduled for Saturday, December 7. Each session, limited to 40 participants, includes an arroyo walk, expert-led discussions, and a communal lunch, with an optional volunteer session in the afternoon.
Registration for the December field trip opens on November 25, ensuring those interested have an opportunity to experience Judd’s vision of integrating art with natural surroundings.
The day’s activities begin at 10:00 AM, with arrival at Casa Perez at 11:00 AM. The schedule includes an arroyo walk and a session dedicated to discussing the landscape, followed by a group lunch. The optional volunteer session, requiring light lifting, runs from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
The Judd Foundation encourages carpooling due to the ranch’s remote location and recommends high clearance vehicles to navigate the terrain.
Support for the Ranch Field Trips comes from Fairfax Dorn and grants from the Texas Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, ensuring the continuation of cultural enrichment and public engagement with the arts in Texas.
