The Overland Trail Museum is set to host an engaging talk on the influential Granado family, whose ties to Jeff Davis County trace back to the 1860s. The event, featuring Maria Granado Dutchover, will delve into the deep roots and dynamic history of this storied family, covering generations that have significantly shaped the local community.
Maria Granado Dutchover will share tales of her ancestors, from Tiburcio Granado’s cattle-raising days and tenure at the Fort to Trinidad Granado’s endeavors to marry Dorothea Dutchover. She will also recount the military service of Thomas Granado, who fought under General Patton across several European battlefields during World War II, and the life of Concepcion “Chon” Granado, whose century of life earned a commemorative plaque from the county.
Attendees will also hear about Lucia, Felicitas, Francisco, Eduardo, Luiza, Josephine, Marcella, and other family members whose daily efforts and dedication have contributed to the community’s longevity and cohesion.
The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19th, at 6 PM, at the Overland Trail Museum, located at 511 N. Fort St., beneath the scenic backdrop of Sleeping Lion Mountain. While the event is free, attendees will have the opportunity to make a donation to support the museum’s ongoing efforts to preserve and share local history.
