The Fort Davis Independent School District awaits the final tally of 27 outstanding mail-in ballots to determine the winners of two contested At-Large seats on its Board of Trustees. The final results, expected today, will resolve an election that remains too close to call since Election Day.
The tight race involves incumbent board members Julia Hernandez and Tommy Everett, as well as challenger Mack Holley. Preliminary results show Hernandez leading with 137 votes, followed closely by Everett with 129 votes, and Holley trailing slightly with 125 votes. The candidates are competing for two available At-Large seats, awarded to the top two vote-getters.
Meanwhile, in Single Member District races, incumbents faced no opposition, with Ben Wilson securing 48 votes in District 1 and Brenda Vargas receiving 56 votes.
School district officials have stated that the uncounted mail-in ballots had not been received through the US Mail as of Wednesday. These ballots are crucial and could potentially shift the outcome of the At-Large races. The district plans to count these votes today and will release the results shortly thereafter.
The official canvassing of the votes is scheduled to occur in the FDISD Board Room on Monday at 5:30 p.m., where the final election results will be verified and certified.
