Alpine Humane Society Celebrates Success at Annual Fundraiser

The Alpine Humane Society hosted its eighth annual fundraiser on Sunday, October 27, at the Granada Theatre, marking another milestone in its long-standing mission to support local pets. Since 1986, the nonprofit has been dedicated to the welfare of animals in the Alpine area, providing services like the Pet Food Pantry and veterinary assistance.

Event Highlights and Community Involvement

The event featured a salsa and queso contest judged by prominent community members Avi Rangra and Ralph Gruebel from the Lions Club, along with Darin Nance from the City Council. The competition added a flavorful and spirited dimension to the gathering, engaging attendees in a friendly culinary showdown.

Musical entertainment was a major draw with performances by Jon Dietrich of the Amazing Prickly Pear Boys of Austin, The Swifts, and the duo Donnie Bason and Gil Shackleford, with Ramblin’ Ryan from Big Bend Radio serving as the event announcer. These acts provided a lively backdrop to the evening’s activities, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

Record-Breaking Silent Auction

The fundraiser also included a silent auction, which featured the largest array of quality items ever donated by artists and donors from across the region, including Alpine, Fort Davis, Marathon, Marfa, and Terlingua. With forty-nine bidders participating, the auction saw unprecedented engagement, surpassing previous years’ participation and contributing significantly to the event’s success.

Impact and Future Plans

The funds raised during the event are set to cover some of the Alpine Humane Society’s veterinary bills, which will enable the continuation of crucial services like the Pet Food Pantry. This support is essential for the organization to maintain and expand its assistance for local pets in need.

The Alpine Humane Society expressed deep gratitude towards all donors, sponsors, and volunteers whose contributions were pivotal in making the event a success. Motivated by this year’s outcome, the organization plans to host the fundraiser again next year, hoping to build on the current momentum.

Ongoing Support and Donations

To sustain its various initiatives, the Alpine Humane Society continues to seek donations of quality housewares, decor, jewelry, and sporting and camping equipment for its Thrift Store and Cattery located at 706 N.5th St. Interested donors can contact the organization at 432-837-2532 to contribute to this cause.

The community’s robust participation and support underscore the significant role that the Alpine Humane Society plays in improving animal welfare in the region, and this event has once again highlighted the collective effort required to make a positive impact on the lives of pets and their owners.
