Crane High School secured a 29-16 victory over Alpine at Jackson Field on Friday night, pushing Alpine to a 16-29 loss. Despite the defeat, Alpine retains its first-place position and now looks toward a pivotal matchup against Odessa Compass on Thursday, November 7, at Wink High School. A win could clinch the district championship for Alpine, underscoring the importance of this upcoming game.

Crane’s offense shone, particularly in the second quarter, when they scored three touchdowns to take a commanding lead. Alpine’s Logan Smith scored early with a 4-yard run and later added another touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Crane’s scoring drives. Crane quarterback #12 D. Rojo threw for 151 yards, while running back #11 L. Smith led the rushing attack with 80 yards on 16 carries.

Key stats from the game included Crane’s 365 total yards to Alpine’s 243. Both teams matched in third-down efficiency at 3-for-8, but Crane excelled on fourth down, completing two key conversions, while Alpine was unsuccessful on two attempts. Each team had two turnovers, with Crane losing two fumbles and Alpine giving up one interception.

The middle school teams will compete at Astound Fields, with the 7th grade playing at 5:00 p.m. and the 8th grade at 6:15 p.m. The varsity game on Thursday, November 7, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Wink High School’s Wildcat Field.
