The Pony, a popular Marfa venue, reopened on Friday, November 1, 2024, following a series of closures and transitions according to reporting by Big Bend Sentinel. Now under the direction of musician and poet Ryan Sambol, the establishment will operate from 5 p.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday, creating a space for local and visiting musicians as well as patrons looking to enjoy an uninterrupted game of pool.
The venue, a reimagined version of the iconic Lost Horse Saloon, initially reopened in August 2023 under Austin entrepreneur Sterling Roberts after a previous closure. The original Lost Horse, once known as the “World Famous Lost Horse Saloon,” had faced financial setbacks that led to its shutdown before Roberts’s 2023 revival.
Now with Sambol at the helm, The Pony seeks to continue its legacy as a gathering spot for the Marfa community, blending live music, a relaxed environment, and a connection to the history of the Lost Horse Saloon.
