The Alpine girls’ varsity volleyball team put on a commanding performance on Friday, November 1, 2024, securing a 3-0 victory over Buena Vista in straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-13). The match, held in Buena Vista, showcased Alpine’s depth and skill across the board, as the team capitalized on strong offensive and defensive plays.
Alpine’s offensive firepower was led by junior Peyton Kinkaide, who registered 13 kills with an impressive .423 hitting percentage. Sophomore Taryn Hardin and junior Neveah Carrasco contributed 8 kills each, rounding out a balanced attack that Buena Vista struggled to counter. As a team, Alpine achieved a solid .250 hitting percentage, committing only 12 errors on 108 attempts.
The team’s defensive performance was equally impactful, with senior Jaycee Portillo racking up a team-high 38 digs, maintaining stability in Alpine’s backcourt. Freshman Kacy Hawkins also made her mark with 17 digs, adding to the team’s total of 96 digs throughout the match. Alpine’s collective defensive effort limited Buena Vista’s ability to score consistently.
In the setting department, junior Naida Morris played a pivotal role, dishing out 33 assists for Alpine. Her precise setups were instrumental in driving the team’s offensive success, allowing hitters like Kinkaide and Hardin to find their rhythm and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Alpine also demonstrated consistency and precision in serving, boasting a 94.1% serving rate as a team. Portillo, Morris, and Smith each contributed aces, keeping Buena Vista on its heels and unable to establish a comfortable offensive flow.
With this decisive win, Alpine continues to build momentum as the team looks ahead to upcoming matches, hoping to carry their success and teamwork through the rest of the season.
