Sul Ross State University in Eagle Pass has announced the promotion of Dr. Sally Roche to Dean of the College of Humanities and Science, effective November 1. Dr. Roche, who has served as Interim Dean since April, steps into her new role with a robust track record of leadership and scholarly excellence within the university.
Since joining SRSU in 1999 as an Assistant Professor of English, Dr. Roche has been a pillar of commitment and academic rigor. Her journey through the ranks of academia saw her achieving tenure and a promotion to Associate Professor in 2005, and later reaching the status of full Professor and Chair of the Department of Humanities in 2011, a position she held until 2017.
Dr. Roche’s influence extended beyond the campus as she represented SRSU as President of the Texas Council of Faculty Senates from 2010 to 2013. Her role as a Teagle Assessment Scholar at the Wabash College Center of Inquiry from 2011 to 2017 equipped her well for her subsequent role as the SACSCOC Faculty Liaison for Institutional Effectiveness.
Her exemplary service and significant academic contributions were recognized in 2017 when she received the President’s Distinguished Faculty Award. In 2020, Dr. Roche resumed her leadership role as Chair of Humanities and took on additional responsibilities as Chair of the Department of Languages and Literature the following year.
As Dr. Roche embarks on her twenty-sixth year at Sul Ross State University, her appointment as Dean marks a new chapter in her distinguished career at the College of Humanities and Sciences. Her depth of experience and proven leadership are expected to drive the college toward new heights of academic excellence and innovation.
