The rich historical tapestry of Marfa during the Mexican Revolution will be vividly brought to life at the ‘Ándale a Marfa’ event, taking place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the USO Marfa Visitor’s Center. This special gathering marks the 111th anniversary of the revolution, emphasizing Marfa’s significant contributions and its enduring connections with Ojinaga and El Paso.

The celebration commences with an engaging performance by Marfa High School’s Folklorico Dancers, whose traditional dances will echo the festive spirit of the revolution. The historical narrative continues with Ojinaga historian Victor Sotelo, who will explore Marfa’s strategic role during these pivotal times in his presentation, “¿Por Donde Vino Villa Atacar Ojinaga?”
Adding a dramatic element to the evening, Ojinaga actress Lydia Gallegos will perform “La Noche Fría,” a monologue that delves into the untold stories of women who were instrumental during the Mexican Revolution. Her portrayal promises to highlight the resilience and vital contributions of these women.
Capping off the event, Arturo Guerrero and his 4-piece Mariachi band will provide a musical homage to the cultural legacy shared across the U.S.-Mexico border. A finalist on Telemundo’s ‘La Voz USA’ and a semi-finalist on Univision’s ‘Objetivo Fama,’ Guerrero’s performance is inspired by his heritage and the stories of undocumented immigrants, as captured in his latest EP, ‘Sin Pasaporte.’
This event is free to the public, providing an opportunity for communal learning and celebration. It is supported by various local and national organizations, including the Texas Commission on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, ensuring a memorable evening of cultural appreciation and historical reflection.
‘Ándale a Marfa’ is not just an event; it’s a cultural bridge that connects generations and celebrates the rich, shared history of the Big Bend region with Mexico. Join us for an evening that promises to be as educational as it is entertaining, fostering a deeper understanding of our shared past.
