City of Presidio Seeking to Hire Utility Worker for Public Works Department

Job Overview: Under the general supervision of the Public Works Director, the Utility Worker will engage in a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks related to the city’s water, wastewater, and landfill systems. This role includes operating a range of equipment for construction, repair, maintenance, and replacement projects within the city.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of equipment and tools post-use.
  • Driving various sized trucks for the transportation of equipment and materials.
  • Routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Operating light to medium-sized construction and power equipment.
  • Participating in construction and maintenance projects, including but not limited to pavement cutting, ditch digging, and pipe laying.
  • Assisting in the training of less experienced employees in maintaining, constructing, and repairing essential city infrastructure.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. and at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid Commercial Driver License with a good driving record is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
  • At least two years of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with equipment, materials, and procedures used in municipal water, wastewater, and landfill services is advantageous.

Working Conditions:

  • The role requires working mainly outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • The position involves handling industrial chemicals, petroleum products, and other hazardous materials.
