Sul Ross State University Invites Applications for Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology

Sul Ross State University, located in the heart of the scenic Davis Mountains, is currently seeking two highly qualified candidates for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology. These positions are part of the university’s Center for Big Bend Studies and the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences within the Jimmy D. Case College of Literature, Arts, and Social Sciences.

The positions, which will start with a 9-month appointment, offer an attractive mix of teaching and research responsibilities. The selected candidates will spend 75% of their time on research, with the remaining 25% dedicated to teaching. The roles are geared towards advancing knowledge in Southwestern archaeology, particularly focusing on arid landscapes and the Trans-Pecos region. Successful applicants will also be expected to teach three semester credit hours per semester, typically one course, which could include Introduction to Anthropology, Anthropology Research Methods, Field Methods courses, and other advanced courses relevant to a graduate program.

Candidates should possess an MA and/or ABD in Anthropology, with a strong emphasis on arid landscapes and Southwestern archaeology. A Ph.D. in Anthropology is preferred. Applicants must demonstrate research productivity and the potential for or a record of publications. Experience in teaching at the postsecondary level and expertise in online instruction using platforms like Blackboard are highly desirable.
