Fort Davis Independent School District (FDISD) is seeing a brighter financial future, according to a report by the Odessa American. The district, once on the brink of closure or consolidation, has turned its situation around through innovative partnerships with private and public organizations.
Superintendent Graydon Hicks highlighted how an article in Texas Monthly brought attention to FDISD’s financial struggles in May 2023. Following that, former superintendent Michelle Hartmann introduced the concept of partnerships to the district, helping generate additional revenue. Hartmann, now deputy superintendent at FDISD, previously implemented a similar program at Pawnee ISD.
These partnerships have been crucial for FDISD. They involve collaborations with several organizations in El Paso, Monahans, Burleson, Alpine, and Marfa, enabling the district to boost enrollment and state funding. Hicks emphasized that without these partnerships, the district might have faced closure. Thanks to this initiative, FDISD is now projected to receive up to $3.5 million from the state next year, significantly improving its financial outlook.
