Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute’s BBQ and Auction Fundraiser Sets Record with Over $100,000 Raised

The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI) hosted its annual BBQ and Auction Fundraiser at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center and Botanical Gardens on Saturday, August 10, 2024. The event, which has become a staple in the Fort Davis community, successfully raised over $100,000, marking a new record for the fundraiser.

The gates to the nature center opened at 3:45 p.m., welcoming attendees to a full evening of activities. The $30 ticket price granted entry to the silent auction, which began at 4:00 p.m., followed by a live auction at 5:00 p.m. The evening concluded with a BBQ dinner catered by Sanchez BBQ of Fort Davis at 6:00 p.m.

Martin Stringer, a well-known figure in the community, served as the auctioneer for both the silent and live auctions. The auctions featured a range of items, including local art, antiques, and adventure experiences, which drew enthusiastic bidding from attendees.

CDRI expressed its gratitude to the community for its continued support, emphasizing the significance of the funds raised in furthering the institute’s research and conservation efforts. The success of this year’s event highlights the strong community spirit in Fort Davis and the surrounding area.
