As students across Odessa return to school, the City of Odessa has implemented new safety measures to ensure their well-being. Among the updates are speed and radar trailers, recently installed near several local schools, including Dr. Lee Buice Elementary on the north side of the city, to remind drivers to slow down in school zones.
In addition to the radar trailers, crosswalks at various Odessa schools have been freshly painted by the City of Odessa’s Traffic Operations Department. These updates were part of a broader initiative to enhance school safety, which took weeks to complete.
The push for these improvements was driven by Council Member Greg Connell, who voiced concerns about the lack of adequate safety signs around schools. His advocacy led to the implementation of several safety enhancements that are expected to make a significant difference.
Joseph Goff, Odessa Traffic Operations Supervisor, and his team were instrumental in carrying out these updates, and their hard work has been recognized by the city.
Ector County ISD students in grades Pre-K through 6th grade and 9th grade began their school year today, with these new safety measures in place to help ensure a safer environment for all.
