The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI) is pleased to announce that Jesse Kelsch, PhD, an Assistant Professor at Sul Ross State University, will be the next speaker for the Roger Conant Distinguished Guest Lecturer Program. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at The Crowley Theater in Marfa.
Dr. Kelsch, who specializes in Structural Geology, will share her insights on the geological formations of the region and the processes that have shaped the land masses over time. Her research focuses on the deformation recorded in the Earth’s outer layer due to plate-tectonic stresses, and she earned her PhD in 2023 from the University of Texas at El Paso. Her work has included studies on faults in the southern segment of the Rio Grande Rift in the Trans-Pecos region and northern Chihuahua.
The event promises to be informative for anyone interested in geology and the natural history of the area. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the geological history of the Trans-Pecos region from a local expert who has dedicated her career to understanding these processes.
The lecture is free and open to the public, with light appetizers and beverages to be served afterward. CDRI encourages community members to take advantage of this opportunity to hear from Dr. Kelsch, whose engaging classroom lectures have been highly regarded by her students.
