The City of Alpine and Keep Alpine Beautiful were celebrated at a prestigious reception at the Governor’s Mansion on June 19, 2024, in honor of winning the 2024 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards (GCAA). The event, hosted by Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott and the Keep Texas Beautiful Board of Directors, recognized Alpine’s remarkable achievement in community and environmental improvement.
First Lady Abbott presented the City of Alpine with a proclamation signed by Governor Greg Abbott to commemorate the award during the celebration.
The GCAA is one of Texas’s most coveted annual environmental and community improvement honors. Communities are evaluated by a diverse panel of judges on their achievements across seven key areas: public awareness and outreach, environmental education, beautification and community improvement, litter prevention and cleanup, solid waste management, and litter law and illegal dumping enforcement. Awards are distributed across ten population categories, with the size of the landscaping prizes corresponding to the community’s population. Other winning communities this year include Argyle, Whitesboro, Seabrook, Anna, Del Rio, Little Elm, San Marcos, Pearland, and Garland.
“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Texans who come together to enhance the beauty and sustainability of their communities. We were honored that their work was recognized by the Governor and First Lady, who graciously shared their home with us,” said Suzanne Kho, Keep Texas Beautiful’s Executive Director.
Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), has recognized Texas communities through the GCAA for 55 years. This year, the City of Alpine will receive a prize of $130,000 for a landscaping project. This project will be executed in collaboration with TxDOT along a state-maintained road, showcasing the community’s commitment to environmental and aesthetic improvement.

Each year, the Governor’s Community Achievement Awards (GCAA) celebrate ten Texas communities for their achievements in seven areas: community leadership and coordination, public awareness and outreach, environmental education, beautification and community improvement, litter prevention and cleanup, solid waste management, and litter law and illegal dumping enforcement. This award is presented by Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation.
