Front Street Books, located at 121 E Holland Ave, will host a special event featuring Andrew Nelson, a two-time Lowell Thomas prize-winning travel writer, this Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm. The event is open to the public and will last for three hours.
Nelson, who has written for National Geographic Travel for over two decades, will discuss his latest book, “Here Not There.” The book offers a unique approach to vacation planning, highlighting destinations that are imaginative, budget-friendly, uncrowded, and rich with meaningful experiences.
“Too often vacation destinations are too crowded, too tired or, with inflation, too expensive,” Nelson writes in “Here Not There.” His book aims to provide solutions to these common travel woes with surprise and delight.
Nelson’s impressive career includes serving as director of editorial projects for Nat Geo’s Traveler magazine in Washington, DC. He currently teaches a course on place and placemaking at the College of Charleston and has also been a visiting professor at Loyola University New Orleans School of Mass Communication.
Nelson is a graduate of Syracuse University and holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri at Columbia. His ties to Alpine are strong, having lived in the area in the early 2000s where he restored buildings with memorable residents such as Carla McFarland, Tom and Katherine Michael, and Stephanie Corley.
Front Street Books invites the community to join this event to gain insights from Nelson’s extensive travel experience and to explore new, exciting travel possibilities through his book.
