According to records from TDLR, permits have been granted for the construction of a new detention center in Midland County. The forthcoming Midland County Detention Center, set to sprawl across 235,000 square feet, is poised to tackle the burgeoning demands of the region’s law enforcement infrastructure.
Located at 2700 South County Rd 1140, Midland, TX 79706, the facility is slated to commence construction on May 1, 2024, with an anticipated completion date of November 1, 2026. Boasting an estimated cost of $170 million, this endeavor marks a significant investment in bolstering the county’s judicial apparatus.
The impetus behind this ambitious project stems from the pressing need to modernize Midland’s detention capabilities. “One of the main reasons the commissioners court wants to make a new facility is because the current detention center was built in the early 1990s,” reported CBS 7.
The new detention center is designed to accommodate 800 beds and will encompass a diverse array of functional spaces. Among these are provisions for medical facilities, food service areas, laundry facilities, commissary services, warehouses, intake and holding zones, release areas, public and visitor spaces, as well as administrative offices. The comprehensive scope of work encompasses various elements, including concrete foundations, load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls, precast concrete planks, structural systems, site work, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, fire protection, security systems, detention equipment, and food service equipment.
Situated at CR 110 and CR 1140 in Midland County, southeast of the City of Midland, Texas, the new facility promises to be a cornerstone in the county’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and judicial efficacy. As Midland continues to evolve, this investment underscores a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its residents and law enforcement agencies alike.
