Rob D’Amico Takes the Helm as Managing Editor of Big Bend Sentinel

In a significant change of leadership, Rob D’Amico has assumed the role of Managing Editor at the Big Bend Sentinel, a renowned weekly newspaper serving the vast region of Presidio, Brewster, and Jeff Davis counties in Far West Texas. D’Amico steps into this pivotal role following the departure of Allegra Hobbs, who recently joined Texas Monthly Magazine.

Founded in 1926, the Big Bend Sentinel has long been a trusted source of news for residents of the Big Bend region. Operating alongside its sister publication, the Presidio International, both newspapers are produced at the newsroom located at 209 W. El Paso Street in Marfa. The papers are printed in Monahans and are readily available at newsstands every Thursday.

Rob D’Amico brings a wealth of experience to his new position. A writer and former communications professional residing in Shafter, Texas, just 40 miles south of Marfa and 18 miles north of the border at Presidio, D’Amico is a dedicated professional with a strong commitment to journalism.

D’Amico embarked on his journalism career at the University of Texas School of Journalism, where he honed his skills while working at The Daily Texan. His journey then led him to the Beeville Bee-Picayune in South Texas, followed by a stint in the Bay Area, contributing to various publications. Returning to Texas, he made a significant impact with his writing for the Austin Chronicle and several other esteemed publications.

In recent years, D’Amico’s bylines have graced the pages of the Texas Observer, Texas Monthly, and Punch magazine. Notably, he completed “Witnessed: Borderlands,” a true-crime investigative podcast in collaboration with the team at Campside Media, distributed by Sony Music Entertainment.

His dedication to investigative work remains unwavering, as he spent the past year tirelessly producing a serial podcast for Texas Monthly, set to launch in March 2024.
