In a unique blend of competitive spirit and educational opportunity, the Sul Ross Rodeo Team is set to host a scholarship rodeo on February 14 at 6 pm. This event, designed exclusively for high school seniors and junior college transfers, aligns with the celebrated Lone Star Poetry Gathering in Alpine, Texas.
The scholarship rodeo, a highlight in the local community calendar, will feature ten standard National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) events. Participants will have the chance to showcase their rodeo skills in a competitive atmosphere, with the added incentive of educational scholarships. The first and second-place winners in each event will be awarded scholarships to Sul Ross State University, furthering their academic and athletic pursuits.
In an effort to maintain a focused and high-quality competition, the rodeo is limited to eight contestants per event. This limitation ensures that each participant receives adequate attention and the competition remains intense and engaging. Importantly, there is no entry fee for the contestants, making this an accessible opportunity for aspiring students.
For those participants who wish to explore the Sul Ross State University campus and its offerings, stalls are available for early arrivals. This provides an excellent chance for prospective students to familiarize themselves with the university environment and the vibrant community of Alpine.
