Major concerns have arisen in our community following allegations of unprofessional conduct against Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Captain Thomas Bigham. This controversy stems from a phone call initiated by Captain Bigham on October 3, 2023, at approximately 5:09 PM, and has since cast a shadow over the TPWD.
During this phone call, I had sought to gather information related to an incident involving State Park Police Officer Jacob Barton. However, the interaction with Captain Bigham took an unexpected and troubling turn. My primary objective was to ensure transparent and professional communication, in line with journalistic standards.
But instead, Captain Bigham’s demeanor turned confrontational and uncooperative. Throughout the 18-minute conversation, Bigham repeatedly interrupted me and engaged in arguments over points that had already been conceded. Notably, Bigham refused to provide email addresses for himself and his supervisor, Mr. Thomas Dolle, despite my polite requests.
It is important to clarify that my intention was solely to gather information for my reporting on the incident involving Officer Jacob Barton. The unprofessional behavior exhibited by Captain Bigham during the call raised serious concerns about the conduct of TPWD officials.
I have formally requested the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to investigate Captain Bigham’s actions and determine whether they were in violation of TPWD’s professional conduct policies. Our community and local media are keenly following these allegations, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency within the TPWD.

I am shocked that a law enforcement officer would use strong arm tactics to intimidate someone from the press. [pun intended]
