In a recent appointment that underscores the commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders, Walter N. Slosar has assumed the role of Chief Patrol Agent for the Big Bend Sector. The announcement was made by Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, Jason Owens, in an internal e-mail last month. Chief Slosar took on his new responsibilities at the Sector headquarters in Marfa, Texas.
The Big Bend Sector encompasses a vast and rugged expanse along the Southwest Border, covering 517 miles. Chief Slosar expressed his honor at being chosen to lead and work alongside the dedicated men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol in this challenging region.
“We have an important mission to safeguard 517 miles of our nation’s border in one of the most rugged and remote regions along the Southwest Border and to combat transnational criminal organizations exploiting our area of operation,” Chief Slosar stated.
Chief Slosar brings with him a wealth of experience, having entered duty on August 2, 1998, with the 384th Session of the U.S. Border Patrol Academy. His initial assignment was at the Santa Teresa Station in the El Paso Sector. Over his impressive 25-year career, Chief Slosar has held various leadership positions at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol headquarters, sector, and station levels.
Most recently, he served as the Chief Patrol Agent of the Miami Sector. Before that, he held the role of Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent in the El Paso Sector from 2021 to 2022. Chief Slosar’s career also includes assignments such as Division Chief of Law Enforcement Operations in the El Paso Sector, Patrol Agent in Charge at the Santa Teresa Station, and Acting CBP Attaché in Guatemala, among others.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection, responsible for comprehensive management, control, and protection of the nation’s borders, encompasses customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection at and between official ports of entry.
Chief Slosar’s appointment to lead the Big Bend Sector demonstrates the commitment of the U.S. Border Patrol to effectively secure the border and protect the nation’s interests in this remote and challenging region.
