A frantic search operation is currently in progress in Big Bend National Park as authorities seek to locate a missing hiker, 25-year-old Christy Perry, who failed to return from a solo trip to the scenic wilderness.
Christy Perry, a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, embarked on her adventure on November 9th, when she picked up a rental car in Midland, Texas, and headed to Big Bend National Park. However, she missed her camping reservation at the Chisos Basin Campground that evening, raising concerns among her family.
Perry, described as 5′ 2″ tall, weighing 100 pounds, with brown hair and a fair complexion, is believed to have started her hike on the popular Lost Mine Trail, a 4.8-mile round trip that ascends steeply through the woodlands of the Chisos Mountains, offering breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains and desert landscapes.
The alarm was raised when her vehicle was discovered at the trailhead for the Lost Mine Trail, but she was nowhere to be found. Local authorities swiftly initiated search efforts, with Park Rangers and U.S. Border Patrol Agents conducting an initial sweep, while a park pilot surveyed the area from above.
Today, an extensive search operation is underway, comprising National Park Service (NPS) employees, U.S. Border Patrol, Texas Game Wardens, and the Los Diablos fire crew, all working diligently to locate Christy Perry. Two helicopters from the Texas Department of Public Safety and U.S. Border Patrol, along with the NPS airplane, are conducting aerial searches to cover a wider area.
To facilitate the search operation, the Lost Mine Trail has been temporarily closed until further notice, allowing search teams the space they need to work efficiently and expedite their efforts.

Despite Perry not sharing her itinerary with anyone, a close family friend confirmed that her trip seemed planned, adding to the urgency of the search.
