Digital Art Enthusiasts Converge for a Weekend of Creativity and Connection



Marfa, the picturesque Texan town known for its deep-rooted love for art and culture, has once again become the epicenter of creativity as hundreds of digital art enthusiasts from far and wide descend upon its charming streets. The occasion? Marfa Art Blocks Weekend 2023, a multi-day extravaganza that celebrates the convergence of art, technology, and community.
Thursday’s Festivities:
The event commenced with a sense of anticipation as attendees gathered at the Saint George Hall Farmstand (113 E El Paso St.) for a Community Check-in at 3 pm. Here, participants received swag bags brimming with Art Blocks goodies and had the chance to mingle with fellow art enthusiasts. The camaraderie continued with a lively Welcome Reception at the Saint George Pool, where beer and wine flowed freely from 4 pm to 8 pm.
The evening crescendoed at the glitch Gallery (108 E El Paso St.) with a Community Meetup featuring the digital artworks of Grant Riven Yun from 8 pm to 11 pm. This captivating showcase was accompanied by delicious food and drinks, creating a perfect atmosphere for stimulating conversations.
Friday’s Highlights:
The weekend’s second day began with an intriguing event at the glitch Gallery – PROOF. From 9 am to 11 am, attendees were treated to a live broadcast of 100PROOF, featuring hosts Kevin Rose, Derek Edwards, and surprise guests. Light snacks were provided, making it an intellectually invigorating morning.
Meanwhile, at Saint George Hall (113 E El Paso St.), an array of artist activations took place from 10 am to 2 pm. Notable highlights included the “Pin Pavilion” by DCA, where 50 cents could get you a unique lapel pin designed by an Art Blocks generative artist, and “Our Pixel Space” by itsgalo, a collaborative digital painting installation that transformed the act of painting into an abstract, animated experience.
The festivities continued with a series of events at various locations, including a yard game-filled Street Closure between Saint George Hall and glitch Gallery (E El Paso St.), a SquiggleDAO Brunch at glitch Gallery, and the grand opening of the Collēctīvus Exhibition at Art Blocks Gallery (109 W San Antonio St.) from 1 pm to 6 pm.
Saturday’s Lineup:
Saturday promises even more excitement, with events such as Bright Moments at glitch Gallery, an interactive morning ritual called Authentic Imagination (AI) Ritual, and a self-guided Open Studio Art Walk showcasing the work of local Marfa artists.
As the day unfolds, attendees can engage in insightful discussions, including a panel conversation on generative fashion, and an exhilarating Art Blocks Trivia Showdown at Saint George Hall, hosted by Alex from Generative Artworks.
The evening comes alive with a Backyard BBQ at Art Blocks Gallery, offering a chance for attendees to unwind, indulge in delicious food and drinks, and strengthen the bonds forged over this creative weekend.
Sunday’s Farewell:
Marfa Art Blocks Weekend 2023 concludes on Sunday with a heartfelt farewell. Attendees can enjoy breakfast burritos and coffee at the Farewell Breakfast held at Art Blocks Gallery, marking the end of an unforgettable weekend of art, innovation, and community.
