Little Amal’s Journey: A Unique Event, “The Stars Above Me,” Comes to Marfa, Texas

In a remarkable convergence of art, hope, and community spirit, Marfa, Texas, is set to host a one-of-a-kind event on October 24, 2023, known as “The Stars Above Me.” The event marks the latest stop on Little Amal’s extraordinary journey across the United States, a 6,000-mile trek that has captured the hearts of millions.

Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet representing a 10-year-old Syrian refugee, has become a global symbol of human rights and the plight of refugees. Since July 2021, Amal has traversed 6,000 miles across 15 countries, earning the adoration of over a million people on the streets and tens of millions online.

The upcoming event in Marfa is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Marfa Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve, Marfa Education Foundation, the Bi-national Cultural Council, and Concierge Marfa. These organizations have joined forces to extend a warm Texan welcome to Little Amal as she continues her inspiring journey.

The event, scheduled to begin at 7:45 pm at the Presidio County Courthouse, promises to be a celestial spectacle. To aid Amal on her celestial journey, the Marfa community has crafted constellation maps to guide her through the dark skies of the Big Bend region.
