Former Blackwell School Students to Lead Marfa Light Festival Parade

The Marfa Chamber of Commerce announced that the former students of the Blackwell School will be at the forefront of this year’s Marfa Light Festival parade, serving as Grand Marshals. The announcement was made on August 8.

The recognition comes after the persistent efforts of the Blackwell alumni to protect and highlight Marfa’s rich history. Their dedication has notably led to the Blackwell School being designated as a National Historic Site.

Those eager to witness this event can join the festivities on Saturday, September 2 at 10 am for the community parade. Blackwell alumni interested in more information can reach out via email at BlackwellSchoolMarfa@gmail.com. Others who want to participate in the parade can find more details on the Marfa Chamber of Commerce website at MarfaChamberOfCommerce.org.

Moreover, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to explore the Blackwell School Museum. It opens its doors every weekend, Saturdays and Sundays, from 12-4 pm. For those keen on diving deeper into Blackwell and Marfa’s history, the museum offers an immersive experience. As an added bonus for travelers, the Blackwell School Museum, now being a National Historic Site, offers a free stamp for those with passports.

Admission to the museum is complimentary and open to the public.
