Directions: From the center of Fort Davis, there are two primary ways to start the loop:
- Head west on Hwy 118 from the northern part of town.
- Drive south out of town on Hwy 17. After just a few miles, take a turn onto Hwy 166 to begin the loop. (Recommended)
A Tour Through Texas Skies: As you commence your journey on Hwy 166, the contrasting vistas on either side command your attention. On your left, the rolling hills and expansive grasslands play host to the region’s unique wildlife – from pronghorns to the mischievous javelinas. To the right, Blue Mountain rises majestically, aptly named for its distinctive hue.
A notable landmark on this route is the Point of Rocks. It’s more than just a pit-stop; it’s an opportunity to climb and bask in panoramic views of the surroundings. Further into the journey, the Crow’s Nest and the Bloys Camp Meeting stand testament to the region’s rich history and heritage.
