Reach New Heights Against Hunger: Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County Hosts Guided Hike to Mount Livermore on October 7, 2023

The Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County invites you to join the Hunger Challenge, a unique fundraising event set to take place on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Participants can choose between a guided hike to the top of Mount Livermore, the highest peak in Jeff Davis County, or guided nature trail hikes at the Davis Mountains Preserve, managed by The Nature Conservancy.

The day will begin at the McIvor Center with breakfast at 7:00 am, followed by the climb or nature hikes at 8:00 am. Sack lunches, bottled water, and snacks will be provided, with a meal served upon completion of the hike.

The event is LIMITED TO 30 HIKERS, and those interested are encouraged to reserve their spot today by paying a $50 non-refundable registration fee. Participants are required to raise at least $250 on behalf of Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County, and must submit their registration fee by September 1 to secure an event t-shirt.

The climb up Mount Livermore is considered strenuous, with an altitude gain of 1,878 ft. and a distance of 3.1 miles (one way) to the summit. For those not up for the summit climb, guided nature hikes provide a beautiful alternative way to support the cause.

Optional accommodations include camping at the Davis Mountains Preserve, 12 bunk beds inside the McIvor Center for $10 per night, or renting a cabin on the property for the weekend at $1,000.

The Hunger Challenge serves as a fundraiser to help the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County in their mission to combat hunger in the region. Individuals can also sponsor a participant, volunteer in various capacities, or become an event sponsor, with the latter having the opportunity to be listed on official t-shirts and marketing materials.

All proceeds will benefit the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County, and the event stands as an extraordinary chance to combine the love for nature with the passion for helping others.
