Sul Ross State University celebrates the academic and athletic achievements of its student-athletes as 11 individuals have been named to the American Southwest Scholar-Athlete team for their respective sports. Among them, Julian Paredes earned the prestigious ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete of the Year title for men’s basketball.
BASEBALL: Carsen Thor, the Lobos’ powerhouse first baseman, closed the season with notable stats and a 3.8 spring GPA. His college career highlights include 18 home runs and a .350 average.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Melody Martinez made waves in her freshman year, garnering accolades like ASC Freshman of the Year and a spot on the D3hoops.com All-Region 10 team. She showcased her prowess with an average of 13.6 points per game and a 3.7 GPA.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: Connor Archer, a versatile athlete, juggled cross country and baseball, earning a commendable 3.9 GPA. He made a mark at the ASC Cross Country Championship with a 40:51.7 run time.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: Freshman and Alpine native Kylie Garcia demonstrated significant progress throughout her inaugural season, securing an 8th place finish for the Lobos at the ASC Championship with a time of 36:17.3 and maintaining a 3.8 GPA.
FOOTBALL: Offensive lineman Jose Calderon contributed to the Lobos achieving 4,034 total yards, solidifying their position as the fourth-best unit in the conference. Calderon achieved a 3.5 GPA.
MEN’S SOCCER: Ryan Seidon’s commitment saw him log 2,204 minutes on the field over his college career while maintaining a 3.5 GPA.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: Deserie Herrera had a successful season with three goals, two assists, and a 3.5 GPA.
SOFTBALL: Alpine’s Camryn Hardin showed consistency with a .388 average, culminating in a commendable 4.0 GPA.
MEN’S TENNIS: Kyle Villalon, with a 4.0 GPA, has previously been recognized as an ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and the ASC West Division Quad-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year in 2021.
WOMEN’S TENNIS: Marley Rokas, another two-sport star for the Lobos, shined in basketball and tennis. With notable stats on the court and a 3.9 GPA, she has established herself as a formidable athlete.
VOLLEYBALL: Annika Canaba, known for her talents in both volleyball and softball, has become a significant name in Sul Ross State athletics. With a 3.9 GPA and impressive stats in both sports, Canaba continues to set new standards of excellence.
