Highland Hereford Cafe in Fort Davis Announces Closure Due to Multiple Challenges

Highland Hereford Cafe, a beloved local eatery known for its commitment to serving locally raised and processed Hereford beef, has sadly announced its upcoming closure. The cafe’s owner shared the news on Facebook, expressing deep sadness over the decision and highlighting the various challenges that led to this outcome.

The owner explained that the closure was the result of a combination of factors. One significant setback was the recent closure of Marfa Meats, a crucial supplier, which disrupted the cafe’s supply chain. Additionally, the ongoing labor shortages in the area made it increasingly difficult to find and retain staff members. The cafe also faced financial pressures due to taxes, permits, and the general costs associated with running a small business in a rural location.

When the Highland Hereford Cafe was established, it was a dream come true for the owner, who aimed to serve the local community while showcasing the area’s rich ranching history. Despite the challenges faced, the owner expressed gratitude to the community for their support and understanding throughout their journey.

While the physical cafe will no longer be operational, the owner announced plans to continue offering small catering services for groups of up to 30 people, as well as baked goods made to order. This pivot will allow them to remain involved in the community and serve their loyal customers in a more manageable capacity.

The announcement on Facebook prompted an outpouring of sadness and support from patrons and well-wishers. Commenters acknowledged the difficulties faced by restaurants, particularly in rural areas.
