Brewster County Sheriff’s Office has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of local schools in emergency situations. Earlier this month, Sheriff Ronny Dodson delivered ballistic shields to every school campus in the county. The shields were purchased using state grant money and will be staged at schools for deputies and other first responders to use if necessary.

The department’s Facebook post announcing the deliveries stated, “We pray this equipment is never needed, but we plan and train, otherwise.” This gesture reflects the department’s commitment to preparing for the worst while hoping for the best.
The ballistic shields are designed to provide an additional layer of protection for first responders in active shooter situations or other emergency scenarios. Sheriff Dodson’s efforts have been widely praised by community members, with many expressing gratitude for the department’s proactive approach to school safety.
