Last month, the Museum of The Big Bend, located on the campus of Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, announced that the grand opening event for its major expansion, originally scheduled for March 10, 2023, had been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Since then, there has been no word on when the new museum space will open its doors to the public.

The expansion project, which began construction in March 2021, is expected to double the museum’s space and feature several new exhibit areas, including a temporary exhibit gallery, a Tom Lea gallery, and a cultural center with interior and exterior spaces.

While the museum’s management team has remained optimistic about the project’s progress, there has been no new date set for the grand opening. Visitors who had purchased tickets for the cancelled event have been offered a full refund or the option to attend the rescheduled event, whenever that may be.
The delay in opening the new museum space has left many eager visitors disappointed, but the museum’s management team has assured the public that they are working hard to finalize the project and set a new opening date. In the meantime, visitors can stay updated on the museum’s progress by visiting their website or social media channels.
