A sudden appearance at Big Bend National Park from Boquillas, Mexico, drew attention when “Corona”, a cherished member of the Uresteto family, inadvertently ventured into U.S. territory and was detained by park rangers.
When Edgar Uresteto initially took to Facebook after Corona’s disappearance, he expressed, “My dear friend Corona (pictured on the left) made the mistake of crossing the river into Big Bend National Park. I couldn’t get her back across before the park rangers arrived. She was taken away, and the chances of us being together again seemed slim. I was trying to find out where she’d end up. My family was heartbroken, especially my 7-year-old daughter. Corona was her best friend.”
Since then, Uresteto has discovered that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is now overseeing Corona in Presidio. As part of standard procedures, she’s undergoing a quarantine process and will be tested for diseases.
The situation brings not just emotional strain but financial challenges as well. Upon Corona’s clearance from the USDA, Uresteto is bracing for potential fees associated with her release. To assist with these upcoming costs, including possible transportation and feed charges, a specific PayPal donation link (PayPal.me/boquillas26) has been shared with the public.
Yet, there remains a somber possibility. The USDA has indicated that should Corona not pass the quarantine checks, the outcome would sadly involve euthanasia. Despite these odds, the Uresteto family and their community are holding onto hope.
