Fort Stockton to host Richard Reeves Memorial State Championship BBQ Cook-Off April 17-18

The Richard Reeves Memorial State Championship BBQ Cook-Off is set for April 17-18 at James Rooney Park in Fort Stockton, bringing pitmasters and barbecue enthusiasts together for a weekend of competition and community events.

Hosted in partnership with the Champions Barbecue Alliance, the cook-off will feature sanctioned competition categories including chicken, pork spare ribs or baby back ribs, pork and brisket, with $15,000 in prize money guaranteed.

Registration opens at 10 a.m. Friday, with an early entry fee of $200 or $225 at the gate. A cooks meeting is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Friday.

In addition to the main competition, jackpot events will take place throughout the weekend. Friday events include salsa at 5 p.m., margaritas at 6 p.m. and ribeye steak at 8 p.m. Saturday will feature a beans competition at 4 p.m. Jackpot events require a $25 entry fee with an 80% payout.

The event will be held at James Rooney Park, located at 202 S. Highway 285. Attendees and participants are allowed to park on grass or pavement.
