Borderlands Research Institute recovers GPS collars in Big Bend Ranch State Park for wildlife research

The Borderlands Research Institute’s Big Game Lab recently recovered seven GPS collars in Big Bend Ranch State Park that were originally deployed in 2023, according to a social media post from the organization.

The collars generate roughly 5,000 spatial data points per individual animal over a period of approximately two years. After the deployment period, the collars are programmed to detach automatically.

Officials said the resulting movement data will support analyses of animal behavior and habitat use, with the goal of contributing to improved conservation planning and management strategies in the Trans-Pecos region.
