Sul Ross State University has named Allison Scott as the inaugural recipient of its Faculty Feedback Award, recognizing her commitment to student engagement, meaningful academic feedback and individualized support through the university’s Connecting with Students for Success program.
The Faculty Feedback Award honors an instructor who demonstrates best practices in student-centered teaching, including knowing students by name, maintaining high academic standards while offering strong support, providing timely and constructive feedback, and building meaningful connections with students.
As part of the program, students were invited to nominate faculty members through a fall semester survey and explain how those instructors positively impacted their learning experience.
Scott, an instructor in Behavioral and Social Sciences, holds three degrees and an education certification from Sul Ross State University. Before joining the university, she served as a public school principal, teacher and counselor.
She was selected from 52 faculty members across all Sul Ross campuses who participated in the Connecting with Students for Success program during the fall semester. Collectively, those faculty members impacted 852 students, with 372 students completing the survey, representing a 43.7 percent response rate.
While multiple instructors received student nominations, Scott stood out based on both the number and quality of responses, as well as her class size and level of student participation. Student feedback consistently cited her approachability, dedication to individualized feedback and genuine investment in student success.
The Connecting with Students for Success program is designed to promote academic achievement and student retention by encouraging ongoing faculty-student dialogue and personalized support throughout the semester. The Faculty Feedback Award will be presented annually to recognize outstanding faculty contributions within the program.
