Border Patrol Deploying 13.6 Miles of Concertina Wire Near Presidio

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Big Bend Sector are deploying 13.6 miles of concertina wire along the U.S.–Mexico border near Presidio, according to a statement posted to the agency’s official Facebook page.

The update was delivered by Adam Hershberger, a Watch Commander at the Presidio Station, who said agents are working alongside the Department of Defense to install the wire. In his remarks, Hershberger referred to the Department of Defense using the acronym “DOW.”

The Department of Defense’s official name has not changed. While the term “Department of War” has been used rhetorically in some political contexts, “DOW” is not an official federal acronym.

According to Border Patrol, the concertina wire deployment is intended to deter illegal crossings, protect agents operating in the field, and strengthen border security in the Presidio area. No timeline was provided for completion of the project, and officials did not specify whether additional wire deployments are planned elsewhere in the Big Bend region.

Border Patrol also did not release details regarding funding, land access, or the precise locations where the wire is being installed.

Big Bend Sector agents said they continue to operate around the clock as part of their border security mission in the region.
