Annual “Voices From Both Sides” Event to Celebrate Border Culture in Lajitas

The much-anticipated cultural and musical event “Voices From Both Sides” is set to return on May 11, 2024, at the scenic Lajitas crossing, just west of Lajitas Resort. This significant gathering, which takes place annually the Saturday before Mother’s Day, aims to bridge communities by celebrating the shared heritage of the Rio Grande region.

The event was established in response to the disruptions caused by the closure of the Mexican border across the Big Bend area following September 11, 2001. These closures had a profound impact on families living on both sides of the border. “Voices From Both Sides” serves as a non-political platform to elevate awareness about border issues through the universal language of music and a series of cultural exchanges.

Each year, residents and visitors gather to enjoy performances that underscore the diversity and unity of the communities straddling the U.S. and Mexico. Organizers promise more details in the upcoming weeks and encourage everyone interested to stay tuned for updates.

As preparations for the 2024 event are underway, the community and visitors alike are invited to join in this celebration, fostering connections and understanding across borders.
