Cowboy Poetry to Echo Again in Alpine, Texas: Lone Star Gathering Set for February 2024 Unveils Star-Studded Lineup

Western enthusiasts have begun their countdown to the 2024 Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering, scheduled to take place at Sul Ross State University from February 15-17. The event, a beloved tradition for the past 37 years, showcases a perfect blend of strong leadership, local support, and a unique venue that echoes with Texas’ cowboy culture.

Frequent attendee and Alpine resident, Joan Escamilla lauded the event, stating its longevity is thanks to the “great leadership, locals, and venue.”

The Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering, which took the reins from the original Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering in 2020, promises another spectacular year with performances from a host of celebrated artists. Members of the public can purchase tickets starting November 1, 2023, while members can secure theirs as early as October 1, 2023.

One of the highlights of the event is the anticipated performance by cowboy songster Andy Hedges. Hedges, known for his distinct interpretation of songs from the cowboy tradition, will host a special show on Saturday night, bringing his recent album of duets, “Roll On, Cowboys” to life. The lineup includes an iconic array of folk legends, Grammy winners, cowboy poets, singer/songwriters, and old-time cowboy musicians.

“The term ‘cowboy songster’ communicates the idea that I am someone who is not a songwriter but an interpreter of songs from a variety of styles within the cowboy tradition,” Hedges explained in a recent interview with Texas Highways.

Among the confirmed performers for the 2024 Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering are Mary Abbott, Jerry Brooks, Dale Burson, Bob Campbell, Hal Cannon, Craig Carter, Doris Daley, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Juni Fisher, Dom Flemons, Pipp Gillette, Amy Hale, Kristyn Harris, Brenn Hill, Randy Huston, and many others.

Visitors to the event can also look forward to a range of activities including keynote addresses, chuckwagon breakfasts, open mic sessions, and a youth poetry contest.
