Alpine City Attorney Rod Ponton Resigns, Council Considers Outsourcing Legal Services

In a surprising turn of events, Alpine City Attorney Rod Ponton tendered his resignation during this week’s city council meeting held on Tuesday. According to The Alpine Avalanche, Ponton submitted his resignation after the completion of the last item on the agenda.

Following the submission, Ponton provided each council member with a written resignation. The council promptly adjourned to an executive session to discuss the matter, reconvening later to vote on accepting Ponton’s resignation.

With Ponton’s departure, the council is now faced with the challenge of meeting its legal requirements for the upcoming sessions. In light of this, the possibility of outsourcing legal services was brought up for discussion. The council recognizes the need for a legal representative, as many important decisions are scheduled for future sessions.

The regular city council meeting took place on Tuesday, June 6, at 5:30 p.m., in the council chambers of the City of Alpine.

The resignation of Rod Ponton leaves the council in search of a new city attorney to fulfill its legal obligations. As discussions on outsourcing legal services continue, the council aims to ensure that the city’s legal needs are met effectively and efficiently.
